MOLASSES CRINKLES COOKIES

A wonderful molasses cookie with a crinkled top! My grandmother kept these on hand for visiting grandchildren.

Ingredients
- 3/4 cup soft shortening
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. ginger
Preparation
Step 1
Mix together shortening, brown sugar, egg and molasses. Sift together and stir in all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, ground cloves, cinnamon and ginger. Chill dough. Roll into balls the size of large walnuts. Dip tops in sugar. Place sugared-side up, 3" apart on a greased baking sheet. Sprinkle each cookie with a few drops of water to produce a crackled surface. Bake until just set but not hard. Bake at 375 degrees F. for 10-12 minutes.
