Ingredients
- 6 tablespoons butter
- 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 4 1/2 cups milk
- 4 1/2 cups shredded cheddar, American, process Swiss, or Gruyere cheese (6 ounces); 1/2 cup crumbled blue cheese (2 ounces); or 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Preparation
Step 1
In a large saucepan heat butter over medium heat until melted. Stir in flour and pepper. Gradually stir in milk. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly. Cook and stir for 1 minute more.
Reduce heat to low. Add cheese; stir until cheese is melted.
