Ingredients
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- Buttermilk
- 2 C. all-purpose flour
- 1/4 C. sugar
- 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 6 T. butter
- 1/2 C. raisins, currants, dried
- cranberries, or snipped, dried tart red cherries or apricots
- 1/2 C. white baking pieces
Preparation
Step 1
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
2. Place egg in a 1-cup liquid measuring cup. Add enough buttermilk to equal 1 cup; set aside.
3. In a large mixing bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in raisins and baking pieces. Add buttermilk mixture. Stir just until dough clings together. Drop dough, a scant 1/4 cup at a time, onto an ungreased baking sheet. Bake in a 400° oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden. If desired, serve with Devonshire.
