Ingredients

  • DOUGH:
  • 1 3/4 CUP FLOUR
  • 1/4 CUP SUGAR
  • 1 TSP CINNAMON
  • 3/4 TSP SALT
  • 1 STICK AND 3 TBSP UNSALTED BUTTER, CHILLED
  • 1/4 CUP APPLE CIDER
  • FILLING:
  • 6 LARGE MCINTOSCH APPLES, PEELED AND SLICED ~8 CUPS
  • 1 2/3 CUPS SOUR CREAM
  • 1 CUP SUGAR
  • 1 LARGE EGG
  • 1/3 CUP FLOUR
  • 2 TSP VANILLA
  • 1/2 TSP SALT
  • 1 CUP WALNUTS
  • 1/2 CUP FLOUR
  • 1 STICK UNSLATED BUTTER, SOFTENED
  • 1/3 CUP SUGAR
  • 1/3 CUP DARK BROWN SUGAR
  • A PINCH OF SALT

Preparation

Step 1

In a food processor, blend FLOUR, SUGAR, CINNAMON, SALT, and BUTTER cut into bits until mixture resembles meal. Transfer to a bowl.

Add APPLE CIDER and combine to form dough. Shape into a ball and chill for 1 hour.

In a large bowl mix APPLES, SOUR CREAM, SUGAR, EGG, FLOUR, VANILLA, SALT.
On a floured surface, roll the dough into a 12” round. Fit into pie plate.

Spoon filling into shell and bake at 450 FOR 10 MINUTES. REDUCE to350 and bake for 35 minutes more.

In a bowl combine remaining ingredients until the mixture is crumbly.

Mash the apple filling lightly with a fork

Sprinkle mixture over filling and bake for 15 minutes.

Let cool on rack.
