Apple Pie in a Jar*

Ingredients

  • 4-1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 10 cups water
  • 3 Tablespoons lemon juice
  • Apples (to fill jars)

Preparation

Step 1

In a large kettle combine sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and water.
Cook and stir until thick and bubbly.
Add lemon juice.Fill 8-10 quart jars with raw cut up apples.
Cover with thick, bubbly mixture.
Boil approximately 20 minutes to seal jars.
When ready to use, add one quart to an 8-9 inch pie crust.
Cover with top crust and bake at 350 for bout 45 minutes or until apples are tender.
