Ingredients
- 3 C. all-purpose flour
- 1/4 C. chopped edible flower petals (such as calendulas, violets, pansies, and/or tulips) and snipped fresh herbs (such as thyme, tarragon, and/or sage)
- 4 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 C. butter
- 2 eggs
- 1 C. buttermilk
Preparation
Step 1
1. In large mixing bowl, stir together flour, petals and herbs, baking powder, and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
2. Make a well in the center. Stir together eggs and buttermilk until combined; add all at once to flour mixture. Stir just until dough clings together.
3. On lightly floured surface, knead dough gently for 10 to 12 strokes. Divide dough in half. Place each half on greased baking sheet or baking sheet covered with parchment paper. Pat or roll each half of dough into a 7-inch circle, about 1/2 inch thick. Score top of each circle, using a sharp knife, into 6 to 8 wedges.
4. Bake in a 375°F oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden. While warm, cut into wedges. Serve warm with jam.
