World's Best Pancake Syrup

By

"This simple maple syrup cooks up in minutes but leaves a lasting impression. It's best served hot over waffles or pancakes with lots of creamy butter."

MY NOTES: I added about one teaspoon cornstarch to the cold water and whisked it in well before adding the remaining ingredients. The final product was much thicker and nicer. Do not overdo the butter flavoring or the result will be an overly artificial taste.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon maple flavoring
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon butter flavoring or to taste

Preparation

Step 1

In a saucepan, combine the sugars, water and corn syrup; bring to a boil over medium heat. Boil for 7 minutes or until slightly thickened. (It will thicken up more when it cools.) Remove from the heat; stir in maple flavoring and vanilla. Cool for 15 minutes. Serve over pancakes, waffles or French toast.

Perfect. Just what I needed. I used almond extract instead of maple, because that is what I had. It turned out great.

Great recipe! I didn't have maple flavor, so I just used vanilla and it was still great. Hubby and 5 kids loved it!

Excellent recipe. Ran out of store bought syrup and I had already made my pancakes. Decided to look for something simple I could whip up and came up with this. My family loved it! Definitely a keeper!

This was wonderful!!! It has a great consistency like real maple syrup. I didn't have maple flavoring so I used hazelnut extract instead and my family loved it. I will certainly make this again and again!

This was so good - everyone loved it. I used almond extract as well. I was so happy to realize the syrup thickens while cooling.

I decided to use this recipe because I'd run out of store bought syrup. My expectations weren't high, but the syrup actually turned out really good. I did add about 1/4 teaspoon salt to balance out the sweet.
