Frosted Apple Bars

These are the most delicious apple bars and you can use your favorite apples especially in the fall when apples are plentiful. They are like an apple pie but in a bar with frosting.
Ingredients
- Pastry:
- 3 3/4 c flour
- 3/4 c butter
- 3/4 c shortening
- 1 1/4 teas salt
- 2 eggs, separated(save the whites to brush on top)
- milk
- Filling:
- 12 to14 apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 1/4 c sugar
- 1/4 c flour
- cinnamon to sprinkle over apples
- Glaze:
- 1 1/2 c powdered sugar
- 1/3 c milk
- 3/4 teas vanilla

Step 1
Mix flour, butter, shortening and salt together. Add milk to egg yolks to make 1 c liquid. Then add flour to this mixture to make a crust. Roll out half and place in a jelly roll pan.
Arrange apple slices on crust sprinkle with sugar, flour and cinnamon. Top with the other half of the crust that has been rolled out also. Brush egg whites on top of the crust and bake at 425 for 10 minutes and then 375 for 20 to 30 minutes until crust browns and apples are tender. When cooled mix the glaze ingredients together and spread on top of the bars.
