Mixed Berry Soda
(syrup for 1 gallon [3.8 L] finished soda; use 21/2 to 4 tablespoons [40 to 60 ml] per 8 ounces [235 ml] carbonated water, or to taste)

- 2 cups (400 g) sugar
- 1 cup (235 ml) water
- 1 cup whole strawberries (145 g, or about 10 medium berries)
- 1 cup (145 g) blueberries

Directions
In a saucepan, combine the sugar and 1 cup (235 ml) of the water. Heat over medium-high heat until the sugar has dissolved and the syrup begins to boil. Remove the syrup from the heat and pour over the berries
to macerate. Using a potato masher, crush the macerated berries to further release their juice. Using a fine-mesh strainer, strain out the fruit pulp and seeds from the syrup as fully as possible.
For the syrup and seltzer method chill the syrup and add to carbonated water.
