  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup dark corn syrup
  • 1 Tablespoon ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons ground cloves
  • 1 cup butter
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda



Step 1

Mix the first 9 ingredients in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil. Remove from the heat.

Pour hot sugar mixture over the butter in a large bowl. Stir until butter melts, then cool to lukewarm. Stir in flour and soda. Cover and chill overnight.
Before rolling dough out, let soften. Roll dough to 1/4" thickness on lightly floured surface. Place cut cookies on ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake at 375 for 10-13 minutes. Cookies may be decorated with royal icing.
