Kal bi (Korean BBQ Short Ribs)

"This is my mom's recipe for kal bi, one of my absolute favorite foods growing up. I don't mention it in the instructions, but I actually combine all of the ingredients, except the ribs, into a blender or food processor and blend it until well mixed."

Ingredients

  • Beef short ribs (best purchased from a korean market)
  • 3 cups soy sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 8 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 3/4 " of a ginger root, minced
  • 1/3 cup sesame oil
  • 1/2 kiwi, chopped finely
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 1/3 cup white cooking wine

Preparation

Step 1

1. Combine all ingredients except ribs and stir well to make a sauce/marinade.

2. Pour sauce over ribs and let marinade for 4 hours or overnight.

3. Cook ribs on a medium-high grill for 3-4 minutes per side or until done.
