Lemon Bread

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 2/3 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup nuts
  • Peel from one lemon
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • Juice from one lemon

Preparation

Step 1

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and beat well. Add the flour, milk, baking powder and salt. Stir just until blended. Stir in the nuts and the grated lemon peel. Pour into a greased 5x9x2” loaf pan. Bake at 350 for 40 minutes. Combine the ¼ cup sugar and the lemon juice. Pour over the bread when it comes out of the oven. Cool in the pan.
