Ina's Macaroni and Cheese

Ingredients
- Vegetable oil
- 1 lb fusilli,or elbow macaroni
- 1 qt milk
- 1 stick unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup flour
- 12 oz grated Gruyere cheese
- 8 oz grated sharp cheddar
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 3/4 lb tomatoes, sliced
- 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs

Preparation
Step 1
-heat oven to 375 degrees while bringing large pot of salted water to boil
-drizzle oil into water and add pasta until cooked, then drain well
-heat milk in saucepan,do not boil
-melt 6 tbsp butter in large pot and add flour all at once
-cook over low heat stirring w/ whisk
-whisk in hot milk and cook for 1-2 more mins,until thickened and smooth
-remove from heat and stir in cheese,
salt,pepper and nutmeg
-add pasta and stir well,then pour into 9x13" baking dish
-arrange tomato slices on top
-melt remaining butter and toss w/ breadcrumbs and coat evenly on top of casserole
-bake for 30-35 mins and rest 5 mins before serving
