Ingredients
- 2 TB Yeast
- 2 TB Sugar
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 cup scalded milk
- 1/2 tsp cardemom
- 1/2 cup butter, margarine or shortening
- 1 cup sugar (Grandpa said the original recipe called for 1/2 cup, but that he preferred it sweeter so he used a full cup) :)
- 1 tsp salt
- 6 cups flour
- melted butter and cinnamon/sugar for dipping
Preparation
Step 1
Boil raisins at the beginning and let cool. Drain and set aside for later.
Mix the following ingredients to activate the yeast:
2 TB Yeast
2 TB Sugar
1 cup warm water
In separate bowl, mix the following:
1 cup scalded milk
1/2 tsp cardemom
1/2 cup butter, margarine or shortening
1 cup sugar (Grandpa said the original recipe called for 1/2 cup, but that he preferred it sweeter so he used a full cup) :)
1 tsp salt
Once the above mixture has cooled (so the yeast isn't killed), add to the yeast mixture.
Add 2 cups of flour and beat until it forms a thick sponge. Let sit for about 1 hr.
Add 2 more cups of flour and beat. Add 2 eggs (1 at a time) and beat. Add 2 more cups of flour and beat again. Add flour until the dough is made "real stiff". :) Add raisins and let rise for the second time.
Pinch off enough dough to make a bun, dip it in melted butter and roll it in a cinnamon sugar mixture. (1 cup sugar and 1/4 cup cinnamon) Twist it in the shape of a bun and place it in the baking pan. (Can't remember if the pan had to be greased or not)
Let the buns raise in the pan one more time. Then bake them at 350-ish degrees (sorry... didn't write down the tempurature) until they are nice and yummy (sorry... didn't write down the time).
