  • Crust:
  • 4 golden delicious apples
  • 2 Granny Smith apples
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 tbsp tapioca
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of clove, ginger and nutmeg
  • 2-3 tsp lemon juice
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup boiling water
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp salt



Step 1

Peel and slice apples. Sugar while cutting. Add spices and tapioca and let stand 10 min.
Make crust- add shortening, water and milk in a blender. Add flour and salt at low speed until blended. Divide in half and chill 4 hrs. Roll between wax paper.
Fill pie shell, dot with butter, add top crust. Brush with milk and melted butter, sprinkle with sugar then cut slits to vent. Bake 1 hr to 75 min at 375 ( cover edges of crust after 45 min)
