- Ingredients:
- 1 (15.25-oz) box chocolate fudge cake mix, plus preparation ingredients from the box
- 22 peanut-shaped peanut butter sandwich cookies
- 1/4 cup vanilla frosting
- 44 small candy eyes
- 176 pieces candy corn
- 6 (1") pieces strawberry fruit tape, each piece cut into 4 strips
- 1 (16-oz) container milk chocolate frosting
Preparation
Step 1
Preparation:
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Prepare the cake mix according to the directions on the box, stopping before the baking step. Pour the batter into two cupcake pans lined with baking cups, making a total of 22 cupcakes. Bake for about 15 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted in the middle of a cupcake.
While the cupcakes are cooling, make the turkey faces:
Lay out the peanut butter sandwich cookies on a flat surface. Fill a piping bag fitted with a small writing tip with the vanilla frosting. Take one of the candy eyes and pipe a small amount of frosting on the back side. Press the eye, icing side down, on the top left side of the cookie, then repeat on the right side to form two eyes. Repeat this process with the remaining cookies and eyes.
Use a paring knife to cut the white and yellow parts of 22 candy corn pieces off and discard, leaving only the orange part of each piece. Pipe a small amount of frosting onto the widest cut edge of an orange candy piece and press, frosting side down, onto the cookie, placing it below and in between the eyes to form the beak. Repeat with the remaining cut candy corn pieces and cookies.
Pipe a small amount of frosting onto one end of one of the small strips of fruit tape. Press the strip to one side of the beak to form the wattle. Repeat for all the turkey faces.
When the cupcakes have cooled, ice them with the chocolate frosting. Then, press a decorated cookie into the first third of the top of a frosted cupcake, so it's standing straight up. Repeat with the remaining decorated cookies and cupcakes.
Place seven of the uncut candy corn pieces around the back of a turkey cupcake to form the feathers. Repeat with the remaining cupcakes and candy corn pieces.
