Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 med. onion chopped
  • 1/2 cup diced celery
  • 1/2 cup chopped green pepper
  • 2 Tbsp. oil
  • 2 Tsp. salt
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/4 Tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 Tsp. paprika
  • 1-28 oz. can tomatoes
  • 2-5 1/2 oz. cans tomato paste
  • 4 cups hot water
  • 2 beef bullion cubes
  • 2 to 4 chili peppers - optional
  • 3 Tbsp chopped parsley flakes
  • 2 cups raw potatoes diced
  • 1 cup raw carrots diced
  • 6 to 7 cups coarsely chopped cabbage (approx. one small head)

Preparation

Step 1

In a very large pot saute ground beef, onion, celery and green pepper in oil until redness is gone from the meat.
Add remaining ingredients except cabbage and combine thoroughly
Simmer uncovered for one hour, stirring occasionally
Take out chili peppers if used
Add cabbage combine and simmer covered one hour longer.
Cook longer for more flavourable soup
