Ingredients
- 2 egg whites
- 1 1/2 c sugar
- 1/4 t cream of tartar
- 1/3 c brewed coffee, cooled
- dash salt
- 1 t vanilla
- or: 1/2 c sugar
- 1/2 c shortening
- 1 egg
- 2 T brewed coffee, cooled
- 1/2 t vanilla
- 1/4 t salt

Preparation
Step 1
In double boiler, combine egg whites, sugar, tartar, coffee and salt. Beat 1/2 min at low speed to blend. Place over water. Cook, beating constantly, til frosting forms stiff peaks, about 7 min. Remove from water, add vanilla, beat til spreadable, about 2 min.
or: Mix sugar, shortening, egg, coffee, vanilla and salt. Beat at high speed til light and fluffy, about 5 min.
