Naan - Sanjeev Version

Ingredients

  • 4 cups (480g) refined or pastry flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp table salt
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 whole egg (optional)
  • 1 cup (200ml) milk
  • 2 tbsp plain yogurt
  • 2 tbsp veg oil
  • 2 tsp kalonji (nigella or onion seeds)
  • 2 tsp butter

Preparation

Step 1

Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt into a large bowl. Add sugar, egg, milk, yogurt, a 3 tbsp water, and knead for 10 minutes. Apply a little oil to dough, cover with a damp cloth and let rest 60 minutes in a warm place.

Preheat oven to 400F

Divide dough to 8 portions and shape into balls. Apply some oil to each ball and sprinkle with kalonji. Flatten each ball into 6 inch round.

Bake 15-18 minutes

Serve hot, topped with butter.
