World's Best Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

  • Fudge Frosting:
  • 3/4 cup Crisco
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 tbsp. light corn syrup
  • 2 tbsp. cocoa
  • 7 tbsp. milk
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

Cream together crisco, sour cream and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Sift together flour, soda, salt and cocoa 4 times. Add gradually to egg mixture, beating well. Add water and vanilla; mix well. Grease, flour and line cake pans with wax paper. Bake on bottom rack in two 9 inch cake pans at 350 for 30-35 minutes; or bake in one 9x13x2 inch pan for 40-45 minutes.


Frosting:
Combine all the above ingredients except vanilla in saucepan. Bring to a full, rolling boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Boil briskly one minute. Add vanilla and beat until thick enough to spread over cake. This will ice one sheet cake; double recipe for a layer cake.
