Ingredients
- 31/4 C. Unbleached All-Purpose Flour
- 81/2 Tbsp. Unsalted Butter, softened
- 1/4 C, plus 3 Tbsp. Sweet Marsala Wine
- 1 Lg. Egg
- 1/2 tsp. Cinnamon
- 3/4 tsp. Baking Powder
- Salt
- Vegetable Oil for Frying
- Confectioners Sugar for Dusting
Preparation
Step 1
In a lg. bowl, mix together flour, butter, marsala, egg, cinnamon, baking powder & a pinch of salt; work into a dough. Cover with a clean kitchen towel & let it rest 30 min. On a well-floured work surface, roll dough into 1/4-in. sheets. Cut into strips, about 1/3-in. wide by 6-in. ling. Tie the strips into knots. In a high-sided skillet, pour in enough oil to come 1-in. up the sides of the pan. Attach a deep-fry thermometer & heat oil over med-high heat to 365-370. Fry knots in batches ( do not crowd the pan ), turning once with a slotted spoon till golden on both sides, about 4 min. Drain on paper towels, dust with confectioners sugar & serve warm.
