Sponge Candy*

Stoney loves this airy candy. I don't dip in chocolate. Just leave plain.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup dark corn syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon molasses
  • 1 Tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 Tablespoon soda
  • 2 large Hershey chocolate bars
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Preparation

Step 1

Combine sugar, syrup, molasses and vinegar in a large heavy pan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until hard crack stage. Be sure to use a candy thermometer. Remove from heat and add soda. Stir quickly, mixing well. Pour into large buttered surface; a cookie sheet works well. When cool break in pieces.
Dipping Chocolate:
Melt candy bars and chips together. Dip pieces in this mixture, cool to set.
