Quick Marinara Sauce

A good marinara is a comfort food staple, especially if pasta, pizza, and Parmesan dishes rank high on your feel-good list. This versatile tomato sauce gives you maximum flavor fst so you won't be tempted to resort to the high=sodium jarred stuff. When you nmake it yourself, you know you are getting the best ingredients, and you control the salt.

Ingredients
- 1 tblsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- One 28-oz can crushed tomaotes (preferabley no-salt-added)
- 1 tsp dried basil
- Pinch crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/2 tsp salt (if using no-salt-added tomaotes), or to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Heat the oil in a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook, stirring, for 1 minute. Add the tomatoes, basil, and red pepper flakes and bring to a boil. Reduce the ehat to medium low and simmer for 15 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper.
