Ingredients

  • 1/2

    cup butter or margarine

  • 2

    squares unsweet chocolate

  • 3/4

    cup all purpose flour

  • 1/4

    tsp baking powder

  • 2

    eggs

  • 1

    cup sugar

  • 1

    tsp vanilla

  • 3/4

    cup chopped pecans

Directions

Lightly grease a 11x7 or 9x9 square pan. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Put butter and chocolate in top of double broiler, place over hot (not boiling) water to melt. When melted, stir thoroughly, then cool. Sift flour, measure, re-sift 3 times with baking powder. Beat eggs until thick and fluffy, add sugar in 3 portions beating well after each, then beat in chocolate and vanilla. Stir is flour mixture, then nuts. Turn into prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake 20 minutes. Remove from oven to cake rack and while hot, mark into square with tip of sharp pointed knife to obtain clean cut edges. Cool, then finish cutting squares.
