  • 1 1/4 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/3 cups mashed ripe bananas(about 3
  • large)
  • 3 tablespoons buttermilk

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350. Butter and flour an 8x8x2 inch metal baking pan. Stir chocolate chips, brown sugar, walnuts, and cinnamon in small bowl until well blended; set streusel aside. Sift flour, baking soda, baking powder,and salt in a medium bowl. Using electric mixer, beat sugar and room temperature butter, and egg in large bowl until fluffy. Beat in mashed bananas and buttermilk. Add dry ingredients and blend well.

Spread half of the batter (bout 2 cups) in prepared baking pan. Sprinkle with half of streusel. Repeat with remaining batter and stresel. Bake coffeecake until tester inserted in center comes out clean, about 45 minutes. Cool coffeecake in pan on rack.
