Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce

Ingredients

  • 3 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1-1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 T. light brown sugar
  • 1/2 t. nutmeg
  • 2-3/4 c. whipping cream
  • 1/4 c. butter, melted
  • 4 c. French bread cubes
  • 3/4 c. raisins (optional)
  • Sauce
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 3 T. light brown sugar
  • 1 T. flour
  • dash of nutmeg
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 T. butter or margarine, softened
  • 1-1/4 c. whipping cream
  • 1 T. vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

Combine first four ingredients, stir in whipping cream and butter. Gently stir in bread and raisins. Pour into a greased 2 quart souffle or deep baking dish. Bake, uncovered, at 375 degrees for 50-55 minutes, shielding with foil after 30 minutes. Prepare sauce below. Let bread pudding stand for 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with sauce below.

Whisk first 7 ingredients in a heavy saucepan. Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, 10-12 minutes or until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
