- Starter Ingredients:
- Note: Starter is required for this recipe.
- 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water (110 degrees)
- 3 cups all-purpose flour, divided
- 3 cups white sugar, divided
- 3 cups milk
- Bread Ingredients:
- 2-3/4 cups sugar
- 2 cups milk
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup oil
- 3 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 1-1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 cups flour
- 1 large box vanilla instant pudding
- Nuts and raisins optional

Note: Use glass or plastic only-no metal spoons or bowls
Directions for starter:
In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in water. Let stand 10 minutes. In a 2 quart container combine 1 cup flour and 1 cup sugar. Mix thoroughly or flour will lump when milk is added. Slowly stir in 1 cup milk and dissolved yeast mixture. Cover loosely and let stand until bubbly. Consider this day 1 of the 10 day cycle. Leave loosely covered at room temperature. On days 2 thru 4; stir starter. Day 5; stir in 1 cup each of flour, sugar and milk. Days 6 thru 9; stir only. Day 10; stir in 1 cup each of flour, sugar and milk. Remove 1 cup to make your first bread, pour 1 cup of starter into each of two ziploc bags to give your friends or to be frozen for future bread. Store the remaining 1 cup starter in a ziploc baggie in the refrigerator until you're ready to make your bread
Directions for Bread:
Day 1 of new starter do nothing
Days 2,3,4 & 5 - Mush the bag
Day 6 - Add 1 cup each of flour, milk and sugar and then mush the bag
Days 7,8 & 9 - Mush the bag
Day 10 - Do the following:
Pour entire contents of bag into a large bowl. Add 1-1/2 cups each of sugar and milk. Mix well. Label 4 one gallon bags with Day 1 and the date. Also add day 6 and day 10 and their dates. Fill each of these bags with 1 cup of the mixture. These bags are starters for additional bread. To the remaining mixture add the eggs, oil, 1/2 cup milk, 1 cup sugar, 2 tsp cinnamon, vanilla, baking powder, baking soda, salt, flour and vanilla pudding. Add optional nuts and raisins if desired. Grease an 8 x 8 baking pan and pour in mixture. Mix 1/4 cup sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon and sprinkle over top. Bake for 1 hour @ 350 degrees or until a toothpick comes out clean.
