Ingredients
- Wash:
- 2 cups flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 12 tablespoons (1 1/2 sticks) cold butter
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 extra-large egg
- 1 cup grated sharp Cheddar
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 425° F.
In a medium bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar together using a fork. Cut in the butter until it resembles small peas.
Combine the buttermilk and egg; beat lightly. Quickly add the buttermilk mixture to the flour mixture and mix until just moistened. Add the cheese to the dough and mix until roughly combined. (Do not over stir.)
Drop by tablespoonfuls, or use an ice cream scoop, onto a well-greased baking sheet. Brush dough with melted butter. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes.
