Split Pea and Ham Soup

By

Ingredients

  • 8 cups water
  • 1 lb boneless ham, cut into 1/2 inch chunks
  • 1 (24 oz.) package dry split green peas
  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch chunks
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 2 carrots, cut into 1/2 inch chunks
  • 2 celery stalks, cut into 1/2 inch chunks
  • 2 chicken bouillon cubes
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon ham base

Preparation

Step 1

In a 6-quart soup pot, combine all ingredients over medium-high heat and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer 50 to 60 minutes, or until vegetables are tender.

Note: you can use left-over ham or buy from deli counter. If too thick after refrigerating, add water when reheating.
