Apple Pie Baked in the Apple

Ingredients

  • 5-6 Granny Smith Apples (make sure they can stand on their own)
  • 1 t cinnamon
  • 1/4 c sugar
  • 1 T brown sugar
  • 4 T buter
  • Pie crust - homemade or pre-made

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375.
Cut the tops off of the apples and hollow out with a spoon or melon baller, reserving the apple meat for the filling and being careful not to puncture the skin of the apple (as this will hold your pie)
This recipe makes 4 baked apples.
Peel and slice the remaining two apples in very thin slices.
Cut the pie crust in to 1/4 inch strips.
Line the inside of the apple with strips of dough.
Place the apples in an 8 X 8 inch pan and add just enough water to cover the bottoms of the apples.
Mix the apples with the sugars and cinnamon.
Divide evenly in the crusts (apples).
Dot with 1 T of butter per pie.
Cover with more strips of crust in a lattice fashion.
Cover with foil and bake 20-25 minutes.
Remove the foil and continue baking for about 20 minutes or until the crust is light brown and the apples are tender.
