Homemade Vanilla

Ingredients

  • 2 vanilla beans
  • 1 cup vodka

Preparation

Step 1

Split the beans lengthwise and coarsely chop. Place them in a sterilized jar with the vodka and seal. Set aside in a cool dark place for a month; shake the jar twice a week.

Strain through a cheesecloth-lined sieve. (Re-serve the beans and, when they're completely dry, place them in a jar with two cups of sugar. Set that aside in a cool dark place for two to three weeks to make vanilla sugar.)
