Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups sugar
- 2 extra large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 1/4 cups vegetable shortening
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 2 1/4 cup AP flour
- 2 1/4 cups pastry flour, or additional AP lour
- 2 tsp baking powder
Preparation
Step 1
pre heat oven to 350
Mix sugar, eggs & vanilla on low-med speed w/paddle attachment of mixer til combined, abt 2 mins
With the motor running, add shortening & paddle for 30 secs
Pour in milk & paddle til thoroughly absorbed into the mixture, abt 2 mins
Stop the motor & add flour & baking soda
Paddle on med high til comes together into smooth ball of dough & pulls away from side of bowl, 3 -5 mins. Scrape down bowl
Transfer dough to lightly floured surface & separate dough into 2 equal pieces
Roll 1 piece into a rope abt 1" in diameter & 30" long
Cut dough into abt 20 pieces @ 1 1/2"
Roll each piece into a rope abt 5"long & 1/2" in diameter, bend to make a ring,pressing end together til they stick (for visual effect twist)
Place on parchment lined cookie sheet 1" apart
Bake til golden brown on bottom, approx 15 mins
Proceed the same way w/rest of dough
Cool on rack
Cookies keep in airtight container 1 week
