Myerstown Sugar cakes *****

The large cakelike cookies I grew up with. I like them plain, but Kevin and the kids like them with buttercream frosting!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound brown sugar
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 ts vanilla
  • 1/2 ts salt
  • 6 cups flour (2#s)
  • 1 ts baking soda

Preparation

Step 1

1. Cream together sugars and marg. Add eggs, one at a time. Finally add sour cream and vanilla.

2. In separate bowl, stir together flour, salt, and baking soda.

3. Add dry ingredients, a couple scoops at a time, to creamed mixture. Batter will be thick.

4. Chill batter for at least 1 hour.

5. Preheat oven to 350*

6. Using a large soup spoon or serving spoon, scoop batter onto baking sheet. (I like to use my baking stone). Flatten the mound of batter slightly with your fingers, this helps the cookies bake more evenly.

7. Bake 15-18 min., cool on wire racks
