Sweet and Sour Pork

  • 1 1/2 pounds lean pork shoulder cut in 2.5" strips
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup cider vinegar
  • 3 Tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • 1 16 ounce can pineapple.- save juice
  • 2 medium carrots thinly sliced
  • 1 small green pepper in strips
  • 1/2 cup thin sliced yellow onion
  • Hot cooked rice



Step 1

In large skillet brown the pork really well in hot oil. Try to make it crispy. Drain off fat. Add water. Cover and cook (simmer) one hour. In small bowl mix sugar, cornstarch, salt, vinegar, soy sauce and juice from canned pineapple. Pour over meat. Cook and stir until sauce gets thick. Add pineapple, carrot , green pepper and onion. Cook 2-3 more minutes until onion is tender.
