Ingredients
- 1 Head Cabbage
- 1/4 lb Salt Pork
- 1 1/2 lbs Ground Beef
- 1/2 lb Lean Ground Pork
- 1 large can Tomato Juice (64 ounces maybe)
- 1 Can Tomato Sauce with Bits
- 1/2 pkg White Rice
- 2 Large Onions chopped
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1 can tomato Sauce with Bits
Preparation
Step 1
Cook rice according to package directions (first rinse off starch)
Chop salt pork fine and cook until brown.
Add onion and cook until onions are brown
Par boil cabbage and cook until tender enough to roll.
Remove half of the center core of each leaf making it easier to roll.
While cabbage is cooking prepare meat mixture as follows:
Mix pork and beef. Add salt and pepper. Add 3/4 salt pork and onion mixture. Add rice and mix.
Make cabbage rolls by putting s small amount (the amount depends on how large the cabbage leaf is) at the end of the leaf. Begin to roll then tuck in the side to make a pocket and roll to the end of the leaf.
Rip the left over cabbage into small bits. Line bottom of large roasting pan with left over cabbage.
Sauce:
1 can tomato sauce with bits
Add remaining salt pork & onion mixture
Cook Five minutes then add tomato juice cook vie more minutes
Pour the sauce mixture over the rolled cabbage.
Cook at 375F for 1 hour. 1/2 hour to reheat.
