Ingredients

  • 1 Cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 Cups sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 Tbsp anise seed
  • 3 Large Eggs
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp lemon zest

Preparation

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour baking powder and add the anise. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the butter-sugar mixture and combine well. Add the eggs, vanilla and lemon zest and mix until you have a soft dough. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and chill for 2 hours in the refrigerator. Pre-heat oven to 375F roll out the dough on a lightly floured board to 1/4 inch thickness, cut into holiday shapes and place on a lightly buttered baking sheet. Bake about 10 minutes or until lightly brown.
