Ingredients

  • 1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
  • 1/2 c. unsalted butter
  • 3 T. all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 c. water (minus 1 T. for adding vanilla)
  • 1/2 c. white sugar
  • 1/2 c. packed brown sugar
  • 1 t. cinnamon
  • 1 T. vanilla
  • 6 Granny Smith apples, peeled cored and sliced

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350.

Melt the butter in a saucepan.

Stir in the flour to form a paste.

Add water, white sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla and bring to a boil.

Reduce temp to simmer.

Place the bottom crust in your pan and brush with an egg white.

Fill with apples.

Pour the sugar and butter liquid over the apples and then cover with the other crust.

Bake 50-60 minutes
