Donvier - Yogurt Maker

Requires Donvier 8 Jar Yoguart Maker
a thermometer stirrer
8 jars with lids
NOTE: Wash thermometer stirrer by hand.
Ingredients
- 4 cups whole or low-fat milk
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup instant skim milk powder (if using low-fat milk)
- 1 heaping tablespoon plain commercial yogurt (contain bacterial culture)
- or homemade yogurt from a previous batch
- FLAVORINGS
- Frozen juice
- Sugar free jam
- maple syrup
- applesauce
- liqueur
- fresh fruit
- honey
Preparation
Step 1
PROCEDURE:
* Pour milk into a 2L saucepan
* Heat milk on medium-low, stirring occasionally, until bubbles appear around the edge and steam rises from the surface.Temp 185 to 190 F
* Remove saucepan from head and add Thermometer stirrer.
* Let milk cool to the Add Starter temperature.
* Add 1 to 2 heaping tablespoons starter to one of the joguart jars.
* Add some of the heated milk and stir until well blended.
* Pour this mixture back into the saucepan and stir well.
* Pour milk equally among jars, cover securely with lids and place jars into the yogurt maker.
* Place the unit cover on the heat base. Plug in, the digital display will illuminate and display "00.0"
* Press the MINUTE SET button, then the HOUR SET button. For a first batch set cycle time to 10 hours. (Set longer cycle for a thicker consistency or shorter cycle for a thinner consistency.) The longer yogurt remains in the machine, the more tart and fir it will become)
* Press the START button.
* The Yogurt Maker will automatically shut off at the end of the cooking cycle.
* YOGURT MUST BE CHILLED FOR 3 TO 4 HOURS BEFORE SERVING.
* Be sure to save some yogurt to use as a starter for your next batch.
* Plain yogurt will keep in the refrigerator 10 to 14 days.
