Molasses Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

• 3/4 cup shortening
• 1 cup sugar
• 1/4 cup molasses
• 1 egg
• 1/2 tsp. cloves
• 1 tsp. cinnamon
• 1/2 tsp. ginger
• 2 tsp. baking soda
• 2 cups sifted flour
• 1/2 tsp. salt.

Preparation

Step 1

Melt shortening in a 3 or 4 qt. saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat and cool. Then add sugar, molasses and egg and beat well. Sift together flour, spices and salt. Add to first mixture and allow to chill thoroughly. Form into 1” balls; roll in granulated sugar. Bake at 375° on greased cookie sheet 2” apart for 8 to 10 min. Makes 4 doz.
