Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspon salt
  • 1/2 cup soft shortening (part butter)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 squares melted unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 cup milk

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350F. Grease 2 layer pans. Measure dry ingredients in a bowl and blend. In a separate bowl, cream shortening, gradually add sugar and mix well. Add vanilla, add eggs 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Blend in melted chocolate. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk, starting and ending with dry ingredients. Pour into pan. Bake at 350F for 50 to 55 minutes.
