Hearty Ziti with Italian Sausage

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1/2 cup celery, diced
  • 1/2 cup onion, diced
  • 1 14.5 oz. can peeled and diced tomatoes
  • 1 15 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1 lb. dry ziti pasta
  • 2 4.5 oz. cans sliced mushrooms, drained
  • 8 ozs. mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

In a skillet over medium heat, mix sausage with celery and onion. Cook for about 5 to 10 minutes until sausage is evenly browned. Drain grease and set aside mixture.

In another skillet over medium-low heat, mix tomatoes, tomato sauce, garlic powder, salt, and oregano. Let it simmer while preparing pasta.

Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook pasta for 8 to 10 minutes, or until al dente; drain.

In a 3 quart baking dish, layer ziti, sausage, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, and sauce. Repeat layers, and top with grated Parmesan.

Bake for 45 minutes in the preheated oven, or until browned and bubbly.
