Birthday Cakes at the Brown's

Everybody has a different request, here are a few tips and reminders so I can keep them straight.

Ingredients

  • Strawberry Filling:
  • Reese-Carrot Cake-18th b-day *****
  • Tyler-Strawberry Buttercream
  • Lindsay-Strawberry Layer w/ strawberry filling and frosting
  • Connor-French Vanilla w/ basic buttercream frosting
  • Kevin-Italian Cream
  • Lauren-Giant Oatmeal Pie
  • Dan-Whoopie Pies
  • Audrey-"Backpack Cake" 2nd B-day
  • This is a tip for Duncan Hines Cake Mix that really improves the flavor.
  • 1 box mix
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup soft butter
  • 2 1/2 cups thinly sliced strawberries
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tsp cornstarch

Preparation

Step 1

Cake mix-
-Beat on low for 30 seconds
-Increase speed to medium for 2 minutes
-Bake as directed on box
*I use this tip on both the strawberry mix and the french vanilla mix.

Strawberry Filling:
Crush 1/2 cup berries; add water; cook 2 minutes; sieve. Mix sugar and cornstarch; gradually stir into berry juice. Cook, and stir till thick and clear. Cool slightly; pour over sliced strawberries. Cool to room temperature and use as cake filling.
