Ingredients
- 4 slices whole wheat bread
- 1/4 cup pizza sauce, may use tomato sauce
- 2 to 4 slices of low-moisture, part-skim mozzarella cheese, enough to cover 2 pieces of bread
- 2 to 4 thick slices of fully cooked ham steak, depending on size of bread
- 2 to 4 slices of pineapple, depending on size of bread
- 1/4 cup pickled jalapeno slices
- Granulated garlic, to taste
- 2 to 4 slices of 50% reduced fat sharp cheddar cheese, enough to cover 2 pieces of bread
- Extra virgin olive oil
Preparation
Step 1
Lay out the 4 slices of bread, and spread 1 tablespoon of pizza sauce onto each.
On 2 slices, layer on the mozzarella, ham, pineapple, jalapeno, granulated garlic, and cheddar. Top with remaining 2 slices of bread.
Heat a drizzle of olive oil in a large skillet set over medium heat. Place sandwiches into the hot skillet, cover, and cook until golden brown on the bottom, about 4-5 minutes.
Flip sandwiches, cover, and cook until golden brown on the other side and the cheese has fully melted, about 4-5 remaining minutes. If the bread turns golden brown before the cheese has fully melted, reduced stove heat to low and keep the sandwiches covered until the cheese is melted.
