Ingredients
- 8 ounces pasta, any
- 1/4 cup butter or margarine
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1 3/4 cups milk
- 2 cups extra-sharp cheddar cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Boil pasta according to package directions. Drain pasta, return to pot and set aside.
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter. Whisk in flour until a roux forms. Cook for 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Add the milk. Bring to a boil and cook until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the cheese until melted. Add seasonings to taste. Add the sauce to the pasta and stir until evenly coated.
Note:
• Optional: Pour into 9x13 casserole dish and bake at 350° F for 20 to 25 minutes.
• If desired, top with 1 cup bread crumbs mixed with 1 tablespoon melted butter before putting in the oven.
