Sweet Dough for Buns or Fancy Bread 0 Picture


  • 2 pkgs yeast
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1 tsp grated lemon rind
  • 6 cups sifted flour



Step 1

Soften the yeast in 1 cup water and 2 tsp sugar. Scald milk, add butter, sugar and salt. Cool to lukewarm and add yeast. Add half the flour to make thick batter. Add eggs and lemon rind. Beat well. Add enough flour to make a soft dough. Turn out on lightly floured board and knead until satiny. Place in a greased bowl until double in size. Punch down. Double in size again. Bake 375 . Makes 2 sweet breads or 3 dozen rolls.
