Monte Cristo Sandwich

Ingredients

  • 12 sl bread
  • butter
  • dijon mustard
  • 3 breast halves chicken cooked, thin sliced
  • 6 sl smoked ham
  • 6 sl Jarlsberg or Gruyere cheese
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp paprika

Preparation

Step 1

Spread bread with thin layer of butter. Spread Dijon mustard on 6 slices. On 6 slices, make layers of chicken (or turkey), ham, tomato and cheese. Top each with slices of bread. Beat eggs well. Add milk, salt and paprika and mix again. Heat griddle. Add just enough butter to coat bottom of pan. Dip both sides of sandwich in egg mix and fry until one side is golden brown. Turn sandwich and cook that side the same. Place cooked sandwich on warm platter in warm oven while cooking remainder of sandwiches, adding more butter to skillet as needed. Cut each sandwich in half or quarters and serve with little kabobs of fresh strawberries, cantaloupe cubes and fresh pineapple chunks.
