Ingredients
- 1/2 C split peas
- 1/2 C lentils
- 5 C chicken or vegetable broth
- 1/4 C sliced carrot
- 3/4 C sliced celery
- 1 medium red sweet pepper, chopped (about 1 C)
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1/4 tsp pepper

Preparation
Step 1
Rinse and drain split peas and lentils. In a Dutch oven combne peas, lentils, broth, carrot, celery, red pepper, onion, bay leaf, cumin and pepper.
Bake covered, in 350 deg oven about 2 hours or till the lentils and split peas are tender.
Remove bay leaf. Top each serving with brown rice, if desired.
