Ingredients
- Filling:
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbls. butter, softened
- 1 Tbls. shortening
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 4 Tbls. brown sugar
- 6 tart apples, peeled, cored, and chopped rather fine
- Sauce:
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 Tbls. flour
- Dash salt
- 1 Tbls. butter
- 1/2 teas. Lemon juice
- 1 cup hot water
Preparation
Step 1
Filling: Combine flour, baking powder, salt in large mixing bowl. Cut in butter and shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal. Gradually add milk to make a soft dough. Roll dough into ¼ inch thick rectangle on lightly floured surface. Brush with melted butter. Sprinkle with cinnamon and brown sugar. Spread apples over pastry. Roll up jelly-roll style. Cut into 10 slices. Place flat in greased 9 x 13 x 2 pan and bake at 350 for 20 minutes.
While dumplings are baking, prepare Sauce:
Combine sauce ingredients in saucepan over medium heat. Bring to boil. Cook 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
Pour sauce over top and continue baking 20 minutes.
