Communion bread

The altar guild ladies at our church make this bread for use on Communion Sundays, cutting it into squares to be served from the chalice

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 C white flour
  • 1/2 C wheat flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 scant T sugar
  • 3 T solid shortening
  • 3/4 C water

Preparation

Step 1

1. Mix dry ingredients together; blend in the shortening and water
2. Divide dough into 6 equal parts forming round balls
3. Place on greased baking sheet and flatten with hand or rolling pin to about 3/8 in thick; place 3 on each sheet
4. Bake at 350° for 10 min.
5. Wrap individually in plastic wrap or baggies; may freeze flat.
