Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 c flour
  • 1/4 t salt
  • 1/3 c shortening
  • 1 T butter
  • 3-4 T cold water
  • add 1 T sugar, 1 t cinnamon, 1/4 t nutmeg
  • add 2 T sugar, 2 T unsweetened cocoa powder

Step 1

Stir together flour and salt. Cut in shortening and butter til pieces are the size of small peas. Sprinkle 1 T water over part of mix, gently toss with a fork. Push to side of bowl. Repeat with remaining water til all is moistened. Form into a ball. On lightly floured surface, flatten dough with hands. Roll from center to edge, forming a 12 in circle. Fit pastry into a 9 in pie plate, being careful not to stretch pastry. Trim 1/2 in beyond edge. Fold under and flute edge to form a high rim. Use a fork to prick bottom and sides of pastry at 1/2 in intervals. Prick continuously at bend of dish. Cook, uncovered, in microwave for 5-7 min or til crust is dry.
